If you’re living with #heartfailure, it’s important to regularly monitor your heart health. But for the best outcomes, it’s important to look beyond your heart.? Hearts are connected to every other part of our body. So heart failure often develops from, or leads to, other health conditions.? People with heart failure often have other conditions at the same time, such as kidney disease, type 2 Diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, iron deficiency, or an irregular heart rate or rhythm. Mental health conditions like anxiety and depression are also common.? These are some of the most common connected conditions, but there are more.? It’s important to identify and monitor any connected conditions you might have.? So, when you talk to your doctor about your Heart Failure, be sure to talk about everything else that’s connected, too. ?? Last week I had the privilege of representing Heart Valve Voice Canada at two transformative gatherings hosted by Global Heart Hub—the Heart Valve Disease Council meeting and a three-day advocacy masterclass in partnership with the SDA Bocconi School of Management. Over four days, 27 organizations from 20 countries came together to share strategies, tackle shared challenges, and strengthen the patient voice in cardiovascular health. For HVVC, it was a reminder that the barriers we face in Canada—late diagnoses, unequal access, and gaps in patient involvement—are part of a global story. And yet, the solutions lie in collaboration, shared purpose, and bold advocacy. The program provided a deep dive into strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and Health Technology Assessment (HTA)—equipping us with practical tools to drive impact and improve care here in Canada. One of the most meaningful parts of this experience was the opportunity to learn from so many passionate and inspiring people—advocates who bring both professional expertise and deeply personal commitment to this work. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this community, and grateful to collaborate with others who share our mission to improve the lives of people living with heart valve disease. As we look ahead to Heart Valve Disease Awareness Week this September, I return with renewed purpose and energy—and a reminder that we are truly stronger, and louder, together.
